Accessibility
Accessibility covers more than just mobility. One in five of the UK population currently has a disability, many of whom are visually or hearing impaired. Still more are temporarily disabled whilst recovering from accident or illness, yet at present only a handful of accommodation businesses are participating in the National Accessibility Scheme.
Since 2004 it has been a legal requirement of the Disability Discrimination Act to make reasonable alterations so that services are more accessible to disabled people. How does a hearing impaired person know the fire alarm is sounding? How does a visually impaired person know what’s on the menu?
STP wants to increase the amount of accommodation which is accessible to disabled visitors – there are very good business reasons why you should consider being one of them.
- Over 10 million people in the UK are disabled and they mostly travel with friends and family
- An aging population means that figure is bound to increase
- Research shows people with disabilities are loyal customers
- All your guests may benefit in the long term
- It’s the law!
The good news is it is easy to make your business more attractive to these markets through simple measures, one of the easiest is to attend a 'Welcome All' trining course.
