Bloomsbury in Sussex
Still at an early stage of planning, this initiative for cultural tourism development has the potential to increase significantly, economic activity for Sussex businesses. Bloomsbury in Sussex provides a new branding for three core attractions at Charleston, Monks House and Berwick Church. They are the focal point for the lives and loves of the group of artists and intellectuals known as The Bloomsbury set, who settled in Sussex to farm the land during the First World War.
Phase one looked at potential sustainable tourism markets which could be attracted to Sussex to learn more about Virginia Woolf, Maynard Keynes, E.M Forster and co, or by attending an expanded number of events like the Charleston Festival and Small Wonder short story festival. Phase two involves funding a feasibility study for a new visitor centre and auditorium at Charleston, with improved facilities and the ability to host more cultural events and festivals.
